Brighton & Hove Council

New empty property reports

  • Empty premises
Empty regency-style detached building, absolute prime location for flats and a shop/restaurant underneath, I have known it to be empty for over a year.

Older empty property reports

  • 78 Stanford Avenue, Brighton, BN1
This property is abandoned. Although several neighbours have reported this in the past, there is no evidence of anything being done to maintain this property. Guttering has fallen over the front door and there is concern that further crumbling can prove dangerous. The garden is completely overgrown. Foxes live in the back yard. Has this property been assessed for potential fire risk? Front and rear entry to the property for the fire brigade appears completely blocked. I understand the owners now live on Havelock Road. Names and address of owners can be supplied on request.
  • 29 Ditchling Rise
This house was one of a group of 4 around Brighton that were reported in the local paper a few years ago as long-term empty, and the Council was apparently threatening compulsory purchase to bring it back into use. It was in a dreadful state. Then work started on it and it now appears to have been fully renovated. However the work has been completed for some time now and it is still apparently empty; net curtains have been fitted but no other decoration, and there is no visible human activity, and no "For Sale" sign. This is particularly galling to local residents as we are losing several small wild open spaces to development because it is argued that we "need the housing" - yet here is a property that could house three or four families, and it is still empty.
  • 176 Ditchling Road
This is a substantial house which appears to be in reasonable condition but it is boarded up and has broken windows. It has no number but is next to No 176d Ditchling Road. (No 176 is the Jolly Brewer pub, on the other side of Florence Place).
  • Bored up house
I was just wandring what is happing to the property because its been boreded up about 6 years. if you give me the property i will do it up to standerds then pay rent after wards if thats ok
  • 87 Chester Terrace, Brighton
Has been derelict & left empty for over 20 yrs, owner is a vagrant/tramp living in nearby Ditchling Rise or somewhere north east of house & he will not sell up.
  • House empty for over a year
This property is a 3 bedroom house. It has been empty for well over a year now and I did actually walk past as the lady who lived there was moving out. It has since been boarded up and the garden has become overgrown. I myself have been waiting for a council property for 5 years and when I see properties like this empty for such a long time it really does annoy me.
  • 57 Sackville Road
This large house is thought to be owned by Brighton Council but has been left empty and boarded up. Temporary use for housing need could be considered?
  • 245 Preston Road
This large house is though to be owned by Brighton COuncil, but has been left empty and boarded up
  • 243 Preston Road
This large house is thought to be owned by Brighton Council but has been left empty and boarded up.
  • 8 Shaftesbury Place
This looks dilapidated with broken windows in front of boards and paint peeling from the wooden outside walls. There is rubbish outside, but not much so it may be that there is someone living in a basement flat underneath. On the other hand, it could be squatters.
  • Empty house?
There appears to be an empty & boarded up house on sackville gardens in hove. i'd really like to know what the situation is with this property and whether it would be possible to buy?
  • Empty for more than 7 years
The owner of the house has another much bigger and better house in Hove.I have tryed to get in touch with him, but...
  • Empty for 3 years
Owner lives abroad and property has been closed for a long time
  • Ex- Primary or girls school
This building is on the west side corner of Upper Bedford St and Bristol Rd Kemp Town and looks dilapidated and empty.
  • 15/17 The Drive, Hove
15/17 The Drive, Hove is a large empty victorian block, last used as a hotel. There have been no signs of use or refurbishment for several years. This is a good central location which could be brought back into use for housing.
  • Park House, Old Shoreham Road, Hove
Park house is a fine old building, boarded up, waiting for redevelopment by a Housing Associaton with the adjoining site. Why not make use of the existing accommodation in the meantime?
  • 149 / 151 Kingsway, Hove
This pair of solid houses on the seafront has been boarded up for several years and are gradually being wrecked whilst redevelopment plans fail. If they had been made available for even temporary occupation it would have been less of a waste and saved the blight for the neighbours.
  • Period building
This period building has been empty for ages. it could hose at least 6 families
  • 19 Upper Bedford Street
19 Upper Bedford Street is a boarded-up corner house which has been empty a long time.
  • 11 Chanctonbury Road
This property was a care home owned by Kelsey Housing Association. It was deemed unsuitable to be modernised to meet present needs so was vacated in Jan/Feb 2008 to be sold. It has since stood empty. We have had a couple of incidences of kids drinking in the garden. More importantly the house is falling into disrepair and is in a much sought after area. We were told it would be sold to fund more suitable modern care homes. Nothing is happening which seems criminal when it is a premium property.
  • Pankhurst Avenue, Brighton
This block of flats to house doctors, next to Brighton General Hospital was built around 1985 but has been shut down and boarded up for 2 or 3 years now. Even if there are longer term redevelopment plans surely this good quality accommodation could be used in the short term to relieve the housing pressure in Brighton?
  • Nurses' flats Pankhurst Avenue, Brighton
Next to Brighton General Hospital there is a block of empty flats - probably about 200 rooms. Why leave this accommodation unused when there are homeless people all around in Brighton. Temporary housing could be set up here whilst any longer terms redevelopment plans and drawn up.
  • Parkside, London Road, Brighton BN1 8QB
Large detached family home recently abandoned and boarded up. I have no reason to believe that it not in a reasonable condition. Along with five other adjacent detached family homes it is the site of a recently failed planning application by Sunrise Senior Living Ltd. This is now the subject of a planning appeal.
  • Empty Shop
This has been empty for years.

Old returned to use
